Pan American Riders Safety Policies

Last Updated: December 28, 2025

Pan American Riders is committed to providing safe, professional, and well organized guided motorcycle tours in Colombia. These Safety Policies establish the minimum requirements, rules, and procedures that all participants must follow to ensure their own safety and the safety of others during the tour.

Pan American Riders does not rent motorcycles. Motorcycles are provided exclusively as part of guided tour services.

  1. Participant Requirements

Driving License

All participants must hold a valid motorcycle driving license for high displacement motorcycles. International participants must hold a license legally recognized for riding in Colombia. The license must be presented before the start of the tour.

Riding Experience

Participants must have prior experience riding high displacement motorcycles and be capable of handling challenging road conditions, including mountain roads, curves, unpaved sections, and long riding days.

Pan American Riders reserves the right to deny participation or remove a rider from the tour if, in the guide’s judgment, the participant does not demonstrate sufficient riding skills. In such cases, no refund will be issued.

Physical and Mental Condition

Participants must be in adequate physical and mental condition to safely operate a motorcycle for extended periods and under varying road and weather conditions.

Any relevant medical conditions, physical limitations, or health concerns must be disclosed prior to the tour. Failure to disclose such conditions may result in removal from the tour without refund.

  1. Protective Gear

Helmet

Wearing a helmet is mandatory at all times while riding.

For one day tours, Pan American Riders provides certified helmets, subject to availability.

For multi day tours, participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own helmet that meets recognized safety standards.

Protective Clothing

For one day tours, Pan American Riders provides basic protective gear, including a jacket and gloves, subject to availability.

For multi day tours, participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own complete protective riding gear suitable for long distance and adventure riding.

The use of appropriate protective gear is mandatory throughout the tour.

  1. Weather Conditions

Colombia presents diverse and unpredictable weather conditions depending on region and altitude.

Participants must be prepared for rain, fog, strong winds, cold temperatures at high altitudes, and sudden weather changes.

Pan American Riders reserves the right to modify routes, schedules, or cancel sections of the tour if weather conditions pose a safety risk. These decisions are made exclusively in the interest of participant safety and do not entitle participants to refunds.

  1. Routes and Terrain

Motorcycle tours may include paved and unpaved roads, sharp curves, steep ascents and descents, and uneven terrain.

Participants must strictly follow the guide’s instructions regarding routes, pace, stops, and riding formation.

Participants are not permitted to deviate from the planned route or make independent riding decisions that may compromise safety.

  1. Participant Conduct and Riding Behavior

Safe Riding

All participants must ride defensively, respect local traffic laws, and maintain safe distances at all times.

Speed and Maneuvers

Speed limits and riding pace are determined by the tour guide. Reckless riding, dangerous maneuvers, or competitive behavior are strictly prohibited.

Alcohol and Drugs

The consumption of alcohol or drugs before or during riding is strictly prohibited.

Any participant suspected of riding under the influence will be immediately removed from the tour without refund.

  1. Traffic Laws and Fines

Participants must comply with all Colombian traffic laws.

Any traffic violations, fines, penalties, or legal consequences incurred during the tour are the sole responsibility of the participant. Pan American Riders assumes no responsibility for traffic infractions committed by participants.

  1. Emergencies and Medical Assistance

Emergency Response

In the event of an accident or medical emergency, the tour guide will coordinate appropriate assistance and contact local emergency services if necessary.

Medical Expenses and Evacuation

Pan American Riders is not responsible for medical expenses, hospital care, emergency evacuations, or related costs. These expenses are the sole responsibility of the participant and must be covered through personal or international travel medical insurance.

First Aid

A basic first aid kit is carried during tours for minor incidents.

  1. Group Safety and Tour Management

All tours are led by an experienced guide trained in route management and basic emergency procedures.

Participants must remain with the group at all times unless authorized by the guide.

Pan American Riders continuously evaluates route conditions, group performance, and participant well being throughout the tour.

  1. Pre Tour Safety Briefing

Before the start of each tour, a mandatory safety briefing will be conducted, covering:

Route characteristics

Riding rules and group formation

Use of protective gear

Emergency procedures

Participation in the tour implies acceptance of and compliance with all instructions provided during the safety briefing.

  1. Participant Responsibility and Acceptance of Risk

Motorcycle touring involves inherent risks, including accidents, injuries, weather conditions, and road hazards.

By participating in a Pan American Riders tour, participants acknowledge these risks and accept full responsibility for their actions, riding behavior, and compliance with safety policies.

All participants must sign a Liability Waiver prior to the tour, acknowledging their understanding of the inherent risks and releasing Pan American Riders from liability, except in cases of direct negligence by company staff as established under Colombian law.
